Apparently, some moms are now telling their kids not to call them “mom.”

The main reason? They’re afraid it makes them sound old.

Instead, moms are telling their kids to call them by their first names.  The moms want their relationship with their kids to feel more like friends, so going by their first name helps that.

Mom Jouelle Baracho says of her four-year-old Jiselle, “We’re friends, not parents. I don’t want her to think of us as an enemy. I never want her to feel she can’t talk to us. I like her calling me by my first name as it makes us feel more like girlfriends than mother and daughter. We have a lovely bond and she loves sharing her stories and adventures with me.”
