Will a little black dress make you feel sexy? Head back to your closet.
Turns out you feel more attractive when you wear something red.
That’s according to a recent study in the European Journal of Social Psychology.
Researchers had 180 university students wear either red or blue shirts. The students were put in small cubicles with mirrors to check themselves out. Another experiment had students take selfies instead of looking in the mirror. The results? People wearing red thought they were more attractive compared to the folks in blue. They also rated themselves higher in sexual appeal.
The study’s authors say the “red effect” may not apply to everyone.
Some don’t like being the center of attention, and wearing red certainly draws more eyeballs. The authors think red just increased their perceived appeal because the person is noticing themselves more. They add the effect could disappear if someone wears red every day.
