Besides being among Disney’s most beloved princesses Elsa, Cinderella and Jasmine have something else in common. Can you guess what it is?
It’s not just inspiring Rihanna’s latest outfits, these Disney princesses all wear blue and there’s a pretty awesome reason! It’s to add a bit of power to the character.
Leatrice Eiseman of the Pantone Color Institute told Allure the concept of blue is for boys came from positive connotations with the color like dependability, constancy and loyalty which matched with creating a strong decent man. Having the princesses in blue is a subtle way of saying young girls can be empowered too!
From a color psychology perspective, blue is reliable and responsible and represents inner security and confidence.
The blue color communicates significance and importance without creating somber or sinister feelings. This is where the corporate blue power suit and the blue uniforms of police officers and firefighters came from.
Think about it…even when they’re not repping female empowerment by wearing blue (i.e. Ariel’s purple shell top and Tiana’s green gown) – they’re not always wearing pink.
