HBO recently confirmed that Game of Thrones’ eighth season will also be the last in the television adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire saga.

HBO programming president Casey Bloys announced the network’s plans for the hit show at a press tour over the weekend adding that the network will abide by showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss’ desire to end HBO’s highest-rated program after season eight, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The eighth and final season is just the latest bad news for Game of Thrones fanatics, as viewers also recently learned they would have to wait until summer 2017 for the show’s next season.
